The dress code is pretty similar to what it says in the handbook but here are just a few specifics.

Ministry Dress Code

Girls need to have long skirts with a non revealing shirt.

Guys need to have nice khaki pants or nice jeans (no holes, rips, or ragged edges) with a nice polo shirt or a button down shirt. For Church services you are NOT ALLOWED to wear jeans and you MUST wear a button down shirt.

Swazis are very clean people and they take pride in their appearance, especially for Sunday church. We have had many teams in the past who come looking very tourist, wearing t-shirts and torn jeans and we are trying to stay away from that look. We have even had some Swazis in the past ask if Americans wash themselves regularly. So please bring nice clothes and look presentable while ministering to the Swazis, we don’t want them thinking we are dirty.

**You can wear knee length shorts and t-shirts on your off days and while around the house.

Please email us at [email protected] if you have any more specific questions.

  1. Shoes all of the above.

Remember, Africa is going into its winter season. It should be around 75 degrees during the day and 50s at night. It does get cold. I was told to dress in layers.

We will be able to wash clothes Swazi-style…by hand.

This is going to be fun.

  2. If the handbook says two black t-shirts and a black skirt, then please bring them. Women in Swaziland wear skirts all the time, so we are required to wear skirts as the ministry dress code that is, anytime we leave the house for ministry purposes. You can wear capris and pants while we’re “off duty” at the house.

  3. We are at training camp and we’re learning more details about our trip.

    Dress code:
Skirts MUST be at least mid-calf or nearly ankle. The longer the better! Please DO NOT bring skirts that are shorter. You will not be allowed to wear them. We do have a washer & dryer.

It will be cold! Mornings and evenings will be extremely cold and very windy. It will be in the 70s during the day. It is highly recommended (by women who have been there) that you wear leggings under your skirts. The sun sets at 5:00. Yes, it is dark by 5:30, and we must be back in the AIM house by dark. This will give us an opportunity to get to know each other, play games, and rest.

Please remember to bring your peanut butter! If you do forget something, we will be able to make a Walmart run.

    More to come later. ๐Ÿ˜€

  4. The long skirts… do they need to be ankle length?

Just making sure I’m getting the right stuff! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Hey Sara!

Rule of thumb, the longer the better ๐Ÿ˜‰ They really need to be mid-calf or longer.

    Hope this helps you out!

    see ya soon!

  6. This may be a weird question, but what shoes are people bringing? Tennis shoes with the skirts? Nice sandals? Flip flops??

And..I have 5 skirts and a dress, what are the rest of you packing?

  7. In the handbook it says two black t-shirts for ministry and a black skirt is need. Is that what we need for this trip….? When you say ministry dress code, does that pretty much mean all the time? So should we not bring capris or pants?
